Re: 10-29-1977 Evan's Fieldhouse Dekalb, Illinois...might as well |
Grendel will be so glad to see your post after someone trashed this show earlier this week.
Five star show as the sound is great and setlist is very nice. Jerry switched back to Wolf in the fall of '77 which brought with it a little more distorted sound. I prefer this sound to the sometimes sterile sound in spring '77, although I'm certainly not putting down the playing. The jamming got a little more intense as well in the fall.

Doesn't anyone hear the recording difference between May and Oct 1977? The feed from the soundboard is different, and Keith's piano sounds all fucked up, like it's a kids thing. Way too much synth. That's my only problem with Oct 77, there is too much Keith and the organ/piano sounds wacky. Plus I think this is the time Jerry really starts to abuse the white powder. In may 77 maybe he is still experimenting with it...ha.

Grendel is indeed Mighty pleased.
Thanks to Stratocaster for "setting the record straight" ;-) regarding this amazing show.
As Jerry Might as well (and did) say, it's
"One big party from front to end."

I did not "trash" the show, and have since did as grendel suggested and gave it another listen. I never said it was a bad show, in fact it's quite good (especially on the second listen), however I don't believe it lives up to all the hype. It is definitely quality '77 with a great Eyes, Let it Grow, and to some extent Loser and Jack Straw. All I was saying was that, while it is good, it doesn't live up to all this "best ever" talk, imho.
